Sarah Sets A Record! Another Ethics Complaint Filed Against Sarah Palin

Numerous other Alaskan Bloggers have already broken the news on this one: The Mudflats, Shannyn Moore, We're Not That Stupid and The Immoral Minority have all weighed in, so anything I may have to say on the matter has undoubtedly already been said.

But that's never deterred me before.

The press release issued by the complainant, Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, reads as follows:

“An ethics complaint against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be filed this afternoon asserting that Palin’s involvement with SarahPAC constitutes “outside employment” and “misuse of official position.” Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.” Sondra believes that the tipping point for her was Sarah Palin’s most recent abdication of her role as Governor and apparent conflict-of-interest when she spoke at two outside events in Indiana rather than work with the Alaska Legislature during the most critical time, the end of the session.

The complaint alleges:

a) Governor Palin has entered into a contract outside of her official duties with the donors, employees, partners and any or all other participants involved in Sarah PAC.

b) The recent partisan trip to Indiana by the Governor was purely to benefit personal interests, had no benefit for the State of Alaska and was in direct conflict with her official duties.

c) The Governor left the State to participate in these events during the most critical end-of-session Legislative activities, at a time where the legislators themselves are not permitted to leave.

Fascinating.

According to Mudflats, this makes an even dozen ethics complaints against our Governor.

Hey - I'm pretty sure that's a record!

Anyone doing a popularity poll on this woman anytime soon? I'd love to have some statistical samples to see if Alaska is awake yet.

Matt, I don't know, but I'll try to find out.
It may be a worthwhile endeavor for the Alaska Democratic Party to fund.

I don't live there anymore but by the look of my Alaska FB friends they're all snowed.

@ SarahPac, it is written that the comming Legal Fund will pay for these 'POLITICALY MOTIVATED filings...."

What else could they be? Perhaps GiNO needs to do her job - no add ins, no extras. Perhaps she needs to START by offering that CLEAR & TRASPAREANT Government she use to speak about before she became Gov...

Guess she was only talking [as usual]...didn't she know the requirements for meeting this goal...CLEARLY it was a goal-since up till that point [per her record] she wasn't engaging in the process at all.

The only CLEAR & TRASPARENT thing about GiNO are her LIES!

All criticism of her is politically motivated in her version of reality. In her reality she has done nothing wrong, so her critics must be politically motivated.

Someone needs to explain the ethics laws to her very slowly and very carefully with a quiz to make certain she understands. Quite honestly, I think she is a lost cause. It has been clear from her handling of the Juneau Senate seat appointment that she is either a clueless git with respect to the law, or she just thinks she can ignore the law.

I wouldn't vote for this incompetent malingerer for dogcatcher.

Ms. Palin has been well schooled in the Executive Ethics Law. The rules were explained, examples given. She has always had an ethics supervisor (as do all state employees) of whom she could ask questions. She even got to see the power point presentation that all state employees can view on the web page.

Has she ever availed herself of this wealth of information when confronted with a thorny question? I don't know, but judging from her record number of complaints, I would say she hasn't. Why hasn't she? Perhaps, because, as in all other aspects of her life, these petty rules don't apply to her. She is a maverick.

The story was picked up by McClatchy here and includes this:
"Palin's office shot back, calling the complaint outrageous and the allegations false, ridiculous, and an abuse of the state ethics act."

Grace -

Yep.

I'm pretty sure that the Governor's Office has that verbiage pre-printed as a standard press release these days, so all they have to do is rip off the top sheet and pass it out to the Capitol Press Corps.
