Who Owns Congress? When It Comes To Health Care Reform, We Know Who's Trying To Own It. UPDATED.

In an article from today's Washington Post, it's made startlingly clear that the health care industry is buying as much influence as they can in the battle over health care reform.

To the tune of $1.4 million a day.

You read that right.

$ 1,400,000 A DAY.

From the article:
"The nation's largest insurers, hospitals and medical groups have hired more than 350 former government staff members and retired members of Congress in hopes of influencing their old bosses and colleagues, according to an analysis of lobbying disclosures and other records."
The article goes on to say:
"The hirings are part of a record-breaking influence campaign by the health-care industry, which is spending more than $1.4 million a day on lobbying in the current fight, according to disclosure records."
If this doesn't piss you off, it damn well should.

h/t to Bob Cesca for getting my attention, and to Sarah Forrest and Eva Pesch for the image.

UPDATE:

Check out this video wherein MSNBC's David Shuster asks Senator Thomas Carper (D) from Delaware:

How Can We Believe You're Not Influenced By All The Money You Get From Insurance Companies?

Senator Carper is a bit... uncomfortable.

It is sad how gullible we have become. Insurance reform must be done but health care is fine. Our government is incompetant and cannot be allowed to run another private industry. Don't you see what they are doing? Financial sector, industrial sector and medical sector. A huge percentage of our private industry and business will be controlled by the government. All they have to say is it is an emergency. We can't wait. We must act now. The best part is that they want to punch through another bill without anyone knowing what is in it, how much it is going to cost and who is going to be responsible for it. Have you tried to read this thing? I have and I am not stupid. Are we so naive that we are going to trust them? Come on people wake up. We can fix this ourselves. We don't need them to do it. Tell them to get thier greedy, selfish hands out of our lives. It is time we take back our country, vote them all out Dems and Repubs,and start over. I don't trust them anymore.
